About the Artist

He was an outstanding Cuban artist recognized for his work in painting and drawing, with a career that spanned more than half a century and which placed him as a relevant figure in the Cuban plastic arts. From a young age he showed a vocation for painting. In 1936 he inaugurated his first exhibition at the Círculo de Profesionales de Camagüey. In 1939 he entered the “San Alejandro” National School of Fine Arts in Havana, where he specialized in painting and drawing, graduating in 1944. He became a professor at the same institution in 1961. His work includes landscapes, portraits and religious themes, with a dark color and a vigorous line influenced by his friend and colleague Fidelio Ponce de León.
