Zaida del Rio, born in 1954 in Guadalupe, Las Villas, Cuba, is a distinguished contemporary artist recognized as one of Cuba's most respected living female artists. Her work explores the profound connection between the human body and nature, creating an imaginative world where plants and trees seamlessly merge with feminine human figures. Del Rio's artistic vision employs abstraction to convey themes of spirituality and hedonism, reflecting her intense bond with the natural world. Del Rio's academic background is impressive; she earned her diploma in Fine Art from the National School of Fine Arts in Havana, followed by a Bachelor of Fine Art from the Superior Institute of Art in Havana. She furthered her education by obtaining a Master in Fine Arts from the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France. Her contributions to the art world are extensive, having participated in all editions of the Havana Biennial as well as Biennales in Ecuador, Egypt, Brazil, Santo Domingo, and Japan. Del Rio has held solo exhibitions at prominent venues, including Estudio Los Oficios Gallery in Havana, Gallery Via Larga in Florence, Italy, and Gallery G in Barcelona, Spain, among others.
